ASTEEL Group Berhad (“ASTEEL” or “Company”) has firmly established itself as a leader in the manufacturing, trading and servicing of steel materials. The Company was incorporated in 1977 in Kuching, Sarawak under the name of Yung Kong Galvanising Industries Bhd. It was listed on the Second Board of Bursa Malaysia in 1997 and subsequently transferred to the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia in 2003. The Company changed its name to YKGI Holdings Berhad on 17 May 2013 and further changed its name to ASTEEL Group Berhad with effect from 27 June 2023.

In 1983, ASTEEL signed a joint venture agreement with Marubeni Corporation for the manufacture of galvanised sheets and later in 2010 established a partnership with Nippon Steel Corporation for the supply of Hot Rolled Coils.

In the new millennium, ASTEEL continued to expand its horizons, by setting up manufacturing plants in Klang in West Malaysia and has since became a leading integrated flat steel sheet manufacturer in the country producing various types of steel materials including Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled Coils, Cold Rolled Coils, Galvanized Coils and Colour Coated Coils. ASTEEL divested the plants in 2018 and has since then remained as an investment holding company.
